Description
These songs, played instrumentally, are associated with the Jewish holiday of Sim’hat Tora, a holiday that comes soon after the high holy days of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Sim’hat Tora celebrates the conclusion of the annual cycle of reading the Tora and the beginning of the new cycle. It is the only time of the year when the Tora scroll is taken out of the ark and carried through the congregation in joyous procession; members of the congregation sing, dance, and touch the scroll before it is returned to the ark.
